Replica Chopard Mille Miglia Limited Edition Flyback Chronograph. Hands-on with the Latest 1,000-Piece fake Limited Edition.

To celebrate the greatest car race of all time, Chopard presented this year their replica Mille Miglia Chronograph in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. Finally, comfort and style work in synthesis with short, tapered lugs that embrace the wrist, a dial inspired by vintage car dashboards with a discreet date aperture. This is the only fake timepiece you’ll ever need for cruising the fabled 1,000-mile route from Brescia to Rome and back. The replica Chopard Mille Miglia is fitted with a robust 46 mm stainless steel case and perfectly paired with a matte brown calfskin strap with double folding clasp.

The Dial

The fake Chopard Mille Miglia Chronograph ref. 168580-3001 features a matte black dial with slate grey chrono counters and a ‘rosso corsa’ bright red seconds hand. The dial also features transferred Arabic numerals with luminous material and a discreet date aperture at 4:30 with a black calendar disc. While the design is really nice and extremely racing inspired, the dial appears somewhat busy. Regardless, the fake watch is very nice and a perfect ode to classic car inspired chronographs. The dial features 12-hour chrono register at 9, 30-minute chronograph at 3 and running seconds at 6 o’clock.

The Case

The fake Chopard Mille Miglia Limited Edition features a highly polished 46 mm stainless steel case with a stepped construction around its bezel, vintage looking pump pushers and a beautiful screw-down crown with an engraving of a three-spoke steering wheel on it. The design is definitely in line with a piece that celebrates one of the most legendary car races of all time, the 1000 Miglia —Mille Miglia— and the replica watch is water resistant to 50 meters.

The Movement

The beating heart powering this chronograph with flyback function is the COSC Chopard 03.05-C automatic movement with a power reserve of 60 hours. The movement equipped with 45 jewels features a beautifully finished flange where the red ‘Mille Miglia’ logo is engraved and finished with red lacquer.  The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph and is fully visible via the display case back.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the AAA+ Chopard Mille Miglia Limited Edition Chronograph ref. ref. 168580-3001 wears true to its size and with remarkable wrist presence. This is one of those modern replica watches with a very vintage design that is extremely appealing and comfortable to wear. For the price, you get a lot of fake watch for the money in a classic looking timepiece that is sporty and elegant at the same time. This replica watch is available in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces and its timeless design goes naturally well with a vintage Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Mille Miglia Spyder.

Sticker Price $9,800 USD.

Two brand new models in the 2016 Chopard Mille Miglia collection

Chopard Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition and Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed black

Chopard Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition and Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed black

In 2016, the Mille Miglia collection received two limited-edition models: the Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition, a 46 mm chronograph, and the 43 mm Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed black which is actually a DLC coated version of the Mille Miglia GTS Automatic launched last year.

IWC Replica Watches
Chopard introduced the Mille Miglia collection in 1988, celebrating its partnership with “la corsa più bella del mondo”, an annual rally of classic and vintage cars, stretching from Brescia to Rome, and back. This collection is all about classic racing style, potent energy, speed, precision, and elegance.

Unlike previous versions of the Mille Miglia chronographs, on the circular satin-brushed black dial, the three subdials are laid out horizontally and the date window is placed between 4 and 5 o’clock, while 12 o’clock is reserved for the “Rossa Corsa” red arrow-shaped Mille Miglia logo that we can also find on the back of the replica Watch.

Chopard Calibre 03.05-C

Chopard Calibre 03.05-C

The 2016 XL Race brings a completely new engine, the COSC certified Chopard Calibre 03.05-C column wheel chronograph with a power reserve of 60-hours.

Limited to 1,000 pieces, the Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition is inspired by the design codes of the cars that took part in the historical race between 1927 and 1940. The XL in the name stands for its 46 mm-diameter case, that makes it the largest of the Mille Miglia wrist chronographs created by Chopard. The two tradition chronograph pushers are paired with a typical Chopard Mille Miglia-style fluted crown.

The replica Watch is matched with a brown SUPORTLO calfskin strap with vintage treatment, to acquire a weathered look over time.

The black theme is used on the back of the replica Watch too, the see-through crystal is tinted and the surrounding bright red gasket provides a great view of the COSC-certified Chopard Calibre 01.01-M movement, with its engine-style finishes and its open-worked oscillating weight. The Haute-horology finishing of the movement is also inspired by vintage motorsport, the grooved bridges are echoing the cooling fins on racing cars.

Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed black and its engine, the COSC certified automatic calibre 01.01-M

Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed black and its engine — it really looks like one — the COSC certified automatic calibre 01.01-M

Limited to 1,000 pieces, the Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed black with its large numerals recalling the dashboard of a racing car from the 1950s, its engine style finishing and its black rubber strap with vintage Dunlop racing tyre-tread motif, makes it a racing beast with a good-old-days charm.

The 43 mm case is entirely treated with black DLC coating, that only looks cool but it also protects it from scratches. The velvet-finished black dial offers a fantastic backdrop to the Super-LuminNova coated indexes, hands and bold numerals. To add more action, the black date window is included in the Rossa Corsa red Mille Miglia logo at 3 o’clock.

Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Collection Releases

Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique
Limited Edition Series, 2002-2012

In this Perpetuelle Lookback, we will explore the limited edition arepwatchesChopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Watches Replica Replica which have been issued biennially since 2002.  My examination of the various models yielded some interesting findings and observations as to how the collection has evolved over the years.  The series has always been held in high regard by enthusiasts and collectors alike, and for good reason.  Follow along now as I dissect the 2002-2012 Chopard Monaco Historique Collection — and see the evolution of an iconic collection!

However, the response was tremendous and subsequently, the Automobile Club of Monaco decided that the Grand Prix Historique would be a biennial event.  Likewise since 2002, Chopard has issued special limited editions for each Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, typically along side non-limited/production models as well.

The Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique collection recalls the strong ties between Chopard and classic auto racing.  The Grand Prix Historique race was started by Michel Boeri (President of Automobile Club of Monaco) in 1997.   Boeri’s original intention was to organize a simple one-off vintage car race as part of the commemorative celebrations of the 700th anniversary of Monaco’s ruling family, the Grimaldis.

A few things I need to note before delving deeper into the discussion.  First, the examination herein is of the limited edition pieces only.  I also note that, due to the unavailability of images and more details, the review is limited to the dial-side of the Watches Replica Replica.  The lack of analysis of the evolution of calibers and casebacks is not due to a lack of desire; however my efforts to obtain additional information were only partially successful.  In particular it was difficult to source official images and info on the pre-2008 models, but with the help of Chopard I did come up with enough to work with.  So although not as comprehensive as it might have been, I think you will still find this review to be quite interesting and illustrative.

And now here we go — a review of the Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, Limited Edition series from 2002-2012.

2002

40mm pink gold case, limited edition of 250

2004’s model was essentially unchanged — except for the color set (the inverse of 2002), and the case (white gold rather than rose gold).  2004 was the last bi-compax layout used — all subsequent years use have used a 3-register chrono layout.

For starters, we see that starting in 2002 Chopard used a 3-9 bi-compax chronograph layout, with a very smooth and round case and lugs.  Chrono counters are “snailed” (the circular texture).  Note also the logo above 6 o’clock — the “Automobile Club of Monaco” seal.  And the “Monaco Historique” notation below 12 o’clock.

2004 (Ref 161256-1002)

40mm white gold case, limited edition of 250

Chopard Grand Prix Monaco Historique 161256-1002

In 2006 the case style remains unchanged, but the series evolved to a 3-6-9 three chronograph register layout.  I strongly suspect that this was due to a change in calibers.

2006 (Ref 161256-5003)

40mm rose gold case, limited edition of 100

2008 perhaps the most important and dramatic year in the evolution of the series — with numerous design changes, the series now gained a much more sporty look to it.  You will see that the brand built off of this new and major evolution in subsequent editions.

It is interesting to see the unique aspects of various models and how the collection has evolved over the years.  From a relatively plain and uninspired design in 2002, the series has come a long ways.  The collection today reflects its sportiest design yet, and I remain excited for future releases.

I hope you enjoyed the look at the collection — past and present.  Please leave a comment below with any thoughts or further insights.

The date is now magnified.   It is difficult to see, but there is also a sunray pattern on the dial — the first such decorative embellishment of the dial itself.  Lastly, the logo of the “Automobile Club of Monaco” is dropped.   The “Chronometer” (COSC) designation is also stated on the dial (again, a change of calibers is likely vs. the prior year model).

2008 (Ref 161275-5001)

42.5mm rose gold case, limited edition of 500

In 2010, the design is sharpened up a bit, the entire dial has a “snailed” pattern to it, the applied indices are enhanced, and the chronograph registers are given a bit more detail.  As well we see the use of a bit more color — the blue accents are designated for the limited edition pieces, whereas the production models and done in orange.

The case is upsized by 2.5 millimeters, with sharper lugs and a narrower, more sporty bezel with tachometer scale on it.  Again we see a change in the chronograph layout — though still a 3-register design as in 2006, the layout is 6-9-12.  Also you can see that the use of Arabic numerals has been replaced with applied indices.

2010 (Ref 161275-5003)

42.4mm rose gold + titanium case, limited edition of 250

2012 brings the addition of a racing stripe on the dial and the addition of titanium into the case construction. The date window magnification is eliminated.  The Watch Replica has a more matte and muted look to it, largely owing to the use of titanium and a similarly colored, non-textured dial.

Baselworld will open its doors in less than a week and as an appetizer, let me introduce you to three new models by Chopard: the absolute racing piece, the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control, the elegant L.U.C Regulator and for ladies the diamonds and steel Happy Sport 30mm Automatic.

Mille Miglia GTS Power Control

Mille Miglia GTS Power Control

Mille Miglia GTS Power Control

Inspired by the shape of classic cars, the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control is 43 mm, fitted with short, pointed lugs that are carefully tapered to ensure optimal comfort on the wrist, while the sporting nature of these timepieces is enhanced by facetted hands. The direct reference to cars can be further observed on the black dial, the power-reserve indicator with a design that evokes a petrol gauge typical of the 1950s, the black aluminum insert bezel and of course the black rubber strap inspired by the 1960s Dunlop racing tyres.

Chopard has first launched its Mille Miglia racing collection in 1988, born from the fascination for classic cars nurtured by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-president of Chopard. This year they will extend it with the Mille Miglia GTS (for Grand Turismo Sport) collection. It will be composed of a three-hand and date chronometer, a power reserve and a chronograph, sees the introduction of a Chopard movement: for the first time, the chronometer and power-reserve models will be equipped with a Chopard movement from the workshops of Fleurier Ebauches.

It is powered by the COSC certified, automatic Chopard 01.08-C calibre, developed, designed and assembled within the workshops of Fleurier Ebauches. Beating at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) it offers 60 hours of power reserve.

L.U.C Regulator

Chopard L.U.C Regulator

Chopard L.U.C Regulator

In their L.U.C Haute Horlogerie collection, Chopard will present a timepiece combining the L.U.C case with a regulator movement. In keeping with the grand tradition of precision clocks, the six indications on the L.U.C Regulator are separated to ensure optimal readability.

The back of the Chopard L.U.C Regulator

The back of the Chopard L.U.C Regulator

Each L.U.C 98.02-L movement of the L.U.C Regulator has successfully undergone the tests conducted by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute, thereby guaranteeing its chronometric precision. The replica Watch is thus authorised to bear the inscription “Chronometer” on its dial. Moreover, its case and its movement have passed the stern tests performed by the Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark, which certifies the fine technical and aesthetic craftsmanship of the replica Watch, and in particular the high level of finishing on its mechanical parts.

Contrary to almost all available regulators, which place the hours at noon, those of the L.U.C Regulator appear at 3 o’clock. This means they peek out beyond a shirt cuff and are thus legible in all circumstances. The unique nature of the L.U.C Regulator also lies in its other atypical indications. Its dial features exquisite symmetry, with its four cardinal points each occupied by an indication. At noon, the power-reserve indication proudly indicates the autonomy of L.U.C Calibre 98.02-L on a graduated scale. The hours are placed at 3 o’clock, while the small seconds beat steadily at 6 o’clock.

The fourth of these strategically placed items of information is a dual-time display appearing at 9 o’clock. This GMT function is controlled by a corrector-pusher discreetly recessed into the side of the L.U.C Regulator. The date is visible through a window between 4 and 5 o’clock.

The L.U.C Calibre 98.02-L, measuring only 4.9 mm in thickness, delivers an impressive power reserve of 216 hours, equivalent to 9 days.

Happy Sport 30mm Automatic

Chopard Happy Sport 30mm with stainless steel bracelet (Ref. 278573-3002) and the diamond set bezel on alligator strap (Ref. 278573-3003)

The new Happy Sport 30mm Automatic is available with a polished steel or diamond-set case. Five floating diamonds whirl about its silver-toned dial featuring a spiral guilloché centre pattern. The crown, also made of steel, is set with a blue sapphire, while the steel bracelet or alligator leather strap accentuates the singularly graceful appeal of this model.

In 1993, Caroline Scheufele, Chopard Co-President and Artistic Director, designed a sporty replica Watch based on an original design in an unexpected combination – steel and diamonds. The Happy Sport was born. True to the spirit of Happy Diamonds, these gems dancing freely between two sapphire crystals soon became a symbol of Chopard and feminine replica Watchmaking as a whole. In 2013, Chopard celebrated the 20th anniversary of this replica Watch with the development of a mechanical model – the Happy Sport Medium Automatic – featuring redesigned lines and details.

We look forward to learn more about the new models that Chopard will release this year. In the mean time, keep an eye on www.chopard.com.

Reviewing Chopard L.U.C. 8HF Power Control

Chopard L.U.C. 8HF Power Control - Perpetuelle

Chopard is an intriguing brand. They have the history enthusiasts desire (yes, they were, first and foremost, a Watch Replica company, despite the common misconception), and the innovation coming from their ateliers today is enough to make any Watch Replica geek drool incessantly. Perhaps more impressive, though, is that Chopard is one of the few Watch Replica companies to own a gold foundry in which they expertly forge precious metal cases and jewelry. But why—then—is the company so senselessly pushed aside in debates involving high-end horology?IWC Portugieser Replica Watches

Beats me.

One of those calibers has a beat rate of 8 Hz. Yes, 8 Hz. To put that into perspective, think Zenith, Grand Seiko, or vintage Zodiac high-beat Watches Replica Replica, which mosey along at a comparatively leisurely 5 Hz or 36,000 beats per hour. By anyone’s standards, those are considered high frequency, but Chopard elected to one-up them all with an astounding 8 Hz or 57,600 beats per hour. Known as caliber L.U.C. 01.06-L and L.U.C. 01.09-L (w/power reserve indicator), the movement powers two different Watches Replica Replica in slightly different guises. Both pieces are limited to 100 (L.U.C. 8HF) and 250 (L.U.C. 8HF Power Control) pieces respectively, creating a sense of exclusivity.

These days, the Geneva-based manufacture is applying expertise in a variety of ways and letting the big boys know they mean business. For instance, if you look deep into Chopard’s movement hierarchy, you’ll see quite a few special novelties, especially from their L.U.C. line, which pushes the limits of Watch Replica making.

Chopard 7

Chopard Calibre L.U.C 01.09-L L.U.C 8HF Power Control

Naturally, one can only wonder if Chopard dropped the ball on movement decoration and finishing. But that’s highly unlikely, given the fact that the Power Control is part of Chopard’s L.U.C. line—a place reserved for the brand’s most prized Watches Replica Replica and manufacture movements. The coverup does vaguely remind of an incident with a special edition Panerai, however, where unfinished Unitas movements were slyly hidden away behind closed backs. But that’s obviously a bunch of unwarranted riffraff on my part because imagery of the movement is widely available around the internet, and this clearly isn’t another generic ebauché stuffed into a fancy case.

Today, we’ll be taking a look at 2014’s titanium and ceramic-cased version of the Watch Replica —called the L.U.C. 8HF Power Control—which is deceptively light and, aesthetically, very unique. But that doesn’t mean the Watch Replica isn’t without a caveat or two. For one, with an impressive movement hidden almost entirely behind a slab of ceramic, the design feels uninspired, and for lack of a better word, cheap when pitted against other Watches Replica Replica in the price range. Indeed, there IS a peephole-sized window that does a nice job of showing off the balance wheel and escapement, but other than that, there’s not much to see. Why hide a movement of such technical merit behind a closed back?

Chopard L.U.C. 8HF Power Control Side Profile - Perpetuelle

Past that, the Watch Replica has a very bizarre look it. Set off by red accents, the second hand, power reserve indicator, and dial ring are a welcome splash of color to an otherwise dark design and emit a sense of spaciness when combined with the off-center crown. Imaginatively, the Power Control’s case is very UFO-like, not in a flying saucer sense, but in a weird, otherworldly sort of way.

Tech-wise, you already know what makes the movement so special: operation is at an incredible 8 Hz (or 57,600 beats per hour) and sounds like a bat out of hell when churning along. The caliber has all the goods you’d expect: COSC certification, a 60-hour power reserve from a single barrel, and a silicon escape wheel, impulse pin, and lever. Simply put, there’s a smattering of mechanical innovation to the package, and that’s one of Chopard’s selling points—something technologically advanced enough to make you feel you’re getting your money’s worth.

Chopard L.U.C. 8HF Power Control 4 - PerpetuelleHowever—and that’s a big however—the strap feels unsuitable for the price point, with stiffness and an unpleasant, plastic-y texture bringing the overall package down a few notches. Frankly, it’s inexcusable to slap a bargain-basement-feeling strap on a Watch Replica of this caliber because it doesn’t match up to the rest of the impressive, if flawed, package. But, in the end, the Power Control is still a thrilling showcase of technical prowess and may very well be considered an important piece in Chopard’s modern renaissance. Of course, that’s only speculation on my part, but with a hot movement beating at 8 Hz, it’s not inconceivable.

The enlarged window displaying multiple dates is placed interestingly, too; similarly off center as the subsidiary dial, and fits in well with the asymmetrical nature of the Watch Replica . Contrasting details combine to make an admittedly fresh design, which isn’t something said of much of contemporary horology (unless one explores smaller brands willing to take risks).

Future collectible? Perhaps.
